Dallas, TX – Scott Stapp was pure greatness at the House of Blues on July 13th. Stapp’s new studio album,The Space Between The Shadows will be released July 19th. With a fresh new look and rocking physical condition, Scott Stapp is on point.
The packed house filled in early to hear the Grammy award winning artist play their favorites songs. After all, Scott Stapp is the voice of one of the best grunge metal bands of all time, Creed. Stapp opened Saturday’s show with a Creed favorite “Bullets”, along with bright red lights and streaming smoke.
If you know the history of Creed and Scott Stapp, you certainly know his career has been filled with highs and lows. Today, Stapp openly acknowledges his addictions and bi-polar disorder and expresses some of his struggles during the show. His new album The Space Between The Shadows features songs like “Slow Suicide”, “World I Used To Know” and “Purpose For The Pain”, all of which speak to struggles Stapp endured over the years. One new song titled “Name” was something Stapp wrote about growing up without a father. He spoke of how he desired a true family after visiting a friend’s home and seeing two active parents. The lyrics to “Name” resonated throughout the room at HOB Saturday.
Stapp certainly knows that his longtime fans came to hear his old hits as well. Stapp broke into a blistering extended version of “What If” that left everyone’s jaw hanging. His performance and voice was undoubtedly on par with his extended rendition. There was an anticipatory crescendo building late in the show when Stapp played several crowd favorites like “Arms Wide Open” and “Higher”.
Shortly before the encore, Stapp invited his audience to join him in helping underprivileged children. Stapp, along with his wife Jaclyn, support a charity named CHARM – Children are Magical. Stapp says that healing himself meant helping others and children need help more than ever. Volunteers were available during the show to sign up willing donors while a signup desk with a lengthy line took on supporters. The performance ended with an encore featuring his new song “Gone Too Soon” followed by “One Last Breath” and “My Sacrifice”.
