Dallas, TX – Celebrating 20 years of “Sonic Brewtality”, rockers Black Label Society and frontman Zakk Wylde played consecutive nights at Canton Hall. Saturday’s event featured the entire Sonic Brew album played in its entirety. Sunday’s show featured BLS’s greatest hits.
Walking into a BLS show is like stepping into a biker rally. Black Label Society t-shirts with skull logos fill the house. Mystifying acronyms like SDMF (Strength, Determination, Merciless, Forever) and GIFD (Getting It Fuc%in’ Done) are seen on shirts and vests. One could easily misunderstand the whole meaning of BLS and the music behind it without understanding all the shortcodes.
Wylde, the barbaric metal god with long hair and full beard, wields his guitar like a sword in battle. Playing next to his crucifix and skull mic stand, he commands the audience. He is loud, muscular and on point with all his greatness.
Wylde has deep roots here in Dallas from playing with his long lost friends of Pantera, Vinnie Paul, and Dimebag Darrell. Zakk, Vinnie, and Dime were drunken fueled maniacs back in their early days, having way too much fun. During the weekend of shows, Wylde paid homage to his long lost buddies with two large picture banners.
