Arlington, TX – Only one man was left standing after four rounds of the Choctaw Casino Iron Cowboy powered by Kawasaki Saturday night at AT&T Stadium. The event was the second Professional Bull Riders Major of the 2016 Built Ford Tough Series.
Taking home the check for $115,625, the trophy and the belt buckle, as well as 885 points in the standings, Shane Proctor out-lasted the other riders in front of a crowd of 35,000 fans.
After having surgery on both shoulders two years ago and being counted out by some in the business, he has made a full recovery and says he is physically and mentally in the best shape of his career – and ready for a run at the championship. This win moved him from the eighth spot to first in the PBR world standing, unseating his brother-in-law J.B. Mauney.
Twelve riders advanced in the first round of riding, while the next round saw no change. In the third round, the field of twelve dropped down to four with only Proctor holding on in the fourth and final round.
In the news conference following his win, Proctor said he had ridden this bull before and was familiar with the bull’s tendencies, especially backing out of the shoot trying to dump the rider, so he was mentally prepared. Knowing that the rider still never knows what the bull will do, he felt really comfortable that he was going to make the ride.
The PBR Iron Cowboy Built Ford Tough Series rides again in Phoenix on Saturday, March 5th.
