Howdy, folks!  It’s time again for the State Fair of Texas.  This year promises to be another outstanding fair with the auto show, livestock show, rides, and of course, the food.

Winners of the Big Tex Choice Awards were announced and you want to check out the winners – the Smoky Bacon Margarita and the Holy Moly Carrot Cake Roly.  In addition, you’ll also be able to taste any other deep fried foods that you’ve ever imagined (and some you haven’t).

Visitors have the opportunity to watch one of the 100 daily live shows throughout the fair.  Entertainment includes music from The Killdares, a Texas Celtic band that’s a regular at the State Fair.  Other acts include Rockin’ Rick and the U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps among many others.

After catching one of the musical acts, stop by the State Fair Wine Garden and enjoy the daily wine tastings where you can experience some of Texas’ best home grown wines.

The annual auto show is always a huge hit with visitors as they browse the latest models and dream of a new car.  Whether you’re a Chevy, Ford or Dodge person, you can check them all out in one convenient location.

State Fair Texas MidwayIn the Midway, you’ll find all of the rides and games that make the State Fair a fair.  You’ll be able to see the world famous Texas Star Ferris Wheel long before arriving on the fair grounds.  On the 212-ft high ferris wheel, you’ll be able to see Dallas as you’ve never seen it before and enjoy breathtaking views of the downtown area.  If staying closer to the ground is more your style, try the Dentzel Carousel, the antique carousel that’s been a staple at the Texas State Fair since the early 1950’s.  Throughout the Midway, you’ll find plenty of fun for everyone in your party, whether they are daredevils or want to stay close to the ground.

Be sure and stop by the livestock area and see what makes Texas, well, Texas.  With the rich agricultural history of Texas, visitors are treated to a hands on and educational experience with actual Texas livestock.  The variety of horse and livestock shows include everything from Arabian horses to barrel racing.

This year, the State Fair is offering family combo tickets that make it affordable to enjoy a day of family fun at the fair.  Visit the Texas State Fair website for more information, tickets and daily schedules.
